A mysterious phone call to the El Centro Chamber of Commerce has raised suspicions of human trafficking in the small California town. An attractive voice, whose name wasn’t caught, inquired about a person seeking a romantic companion in San Diego, sparking concerns that a local woman may be being coerced into a life of servitude.
The caller, who was not identified, seemed to be fielding multiple inquiries at once, and appeared to be juggling multiple conversations. When asked if the Chamber had received any requests for matchmaking services, the voice mused about the next inquiry being a man seeking a wife.
While the phone call may seem innocuous, local authorities are taking notice. The Imperial Valley Press has learned that the Assembly Committee has asked for relief from the Administration, with some speculating that the request may be related to this potential human trafficking case.
As the investigation continues, residents of El Centro are left wondering if the charming voice on the phone is more than just a curious citizen. Is it a clever ruse to distract from a more sinister plot? Only time will tell.
