Matthew Anthony Keller, a 24-year-old former teacher at Southwest High School in Fort Worth, Texas, has been arrested and charged with receiving child pornography. Keller, who also served as a youth pastor, was taken into custody on Friday, July 1, 2016 and is currently being held in federal custody pending a detention hearing set for tomorrow, July 6, 2016.
According to the complaint, the investigation began last month when the parents of a 15-year-old boy discovered that their son had been exchanging nude photos and videos with Keller for approximately 18 months. The parents were concerned because Keller had planned to fly from Texas to Michigan to meet with the boy for a sexual encounter.
As the investigation progressed, authorities seized a computer from Keller’s residence in Watauga, Texas, and found a nude, sexually explicit video of the minor victim. The maximum statutory penalty for the offense as charged is not less than five years or up to 20 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and a lifetime of supervised release.
Keller’s arrest marks the 10th anniversary of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a department effort launched in May 2006 to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children. Since FY 2011, the Department of Justice has filed 20,260 PSC cases against 19,111 defendants.
