Williamsport, PA – In a shocking turn of events, two federal inmates have been charged with possessing contraband in prison, leaving many to question the security measures in place.
Matthew Coke, 23, and Devonte Andrews, 29, both inmates at the Federal Correctional Institution, Allenwood (FCI Allenwood), were charged separately by a federal grand jury with possessing contraband in prison. The charges stem from an investigation by officers at FCI Allenwood and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Coke was found in possession of a sharpened plastic shank on April 14, 2022, while Andrews was found with a similar contraband on April 16, 2022. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what other charges may be brought forth.
The charges against Coke and Andrews are serious and carry significant penalties. If convicted, Coke faces a maximum of five years of incarceration and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Criminal indictments are only allegations, and all persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. The case against Coke and Andrews is a sobering reminder of the dangers of contraband in prisons and the need for increased security measures to prevent such incidents.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania is handling the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Alisan V. Martin prosecuting the cases. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what other charges may be brought forth.
