A sinister plot to distribute methamphetamine has been foiled in the Siouxland area, with a local man facing the consequences of his actions. Matthew Sandoval, 28, of Sioux City, Iowa, has been sentenced to 234 months’ imprisonment for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
The guilty plea, which was entered on October 28, 2021, marked a significant turning point in the investigation. Sandoval’s prior convictions for assault, possessing controlled substances, and three convictions for evading law enforcement, which involved high-speed pursuits, had already raised concerns about his involvement in illicit activities.
The evidence presented in court revealed that Sandoval and others had conspired to distribute at least 40 pounds of methamphetamine in the Siouxland area between 2016 and June 2021. The conspiracy involved several shipments of methamphetamine utilizing the United States Postal Service.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has expressed its commitment to preserving the integrity of the US Mail. Inspector in Charge Ruth M. Mendonça stated that people who use the mail to distribute dangerous drugs cause great harm to communities and put USPS employees at risk of exposure to dangerous controlled substances and violence associated with drug trafficking.
Sandoval’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the impact they had on the community. He must serve a five-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, which consists of law enforcement personnel from various agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
