McALLEN, Texas — Rodrigo Garcia-Fuentes, a 30-year-old man from McAllen, is headed to federal prison for receiving child pornography, including videos depicting children under 12 in sadistic and violent acts, federal prosecutors announced.
Garcia-Fuentes pleaded guilty on June 2, 2017, to receipt of child pornography. On the day of sentencing, U.S. District Judge Randy Crane handed down a 70-month prison term, factoring in the extreme youth of the victims and the volume of illicit material—650 videos and 658 images—found on his seized computer.
The investigation began April 4, 2016, when a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agent identified a computer trading child pornography over a peer-to-peer network. The IP address traced to Garcia-Fuentes’ residence in McAllen. On July 29, 2016, HSI agents executed a federal search warrant and seized the computer used in the crimes.
A forensic analysis revealed the horrifying scope of the collection: numerous videos involving prepubescent minors in sexually explicit and violent conduct. Some of the content included known victims previously identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, underscoring the real-world harm caused by digital distribution.
Garcia-Fuentes admitted he had been downloading and viewing child pornography for approximately four years. He acknowledged transferring the files over the Internet, thereby receiving the illegal material. He will remain in federal custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
Upon release, Garcia-Fuentes will face a lifetime of supervised release, during which he must comply with strict monitoring, including internet restrictions and in-person check-ins. He is also required to register as a sex offender and pay $62,500 in restitution to the victims. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Paxton as part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.
