McLaughlin Man Sentenced for Assault
A McLaughlin, South Dakota, man has been sentenced to 60 days of custody for his role in a violent assault.
Conrad Little Bear, 54, was sentenced on February 4, 2014, by U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes. He will also pay a $20 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from an incident on October 18, 2012, when Little Bear became irate after being informed by his brother that someone had broken into his house. The victim, who was asleep on a couch in the living room, was then tied up and beaten by Little Bear.
Law enforcement arrived to find the victim bound and tied with a thick rope, bleeding from the right ear, right eyebrow, and mouth.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley.
Little Bear is set to self-report to the U.S. Marshals Service on February 25, 2014.
Little Bear was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2013, and pled guilty on January 7, 2014.
