Frankfurt, Germany, February 22, 1951 – In a brazen attempt to smuggle gold into Germany, an American official of the International Refugee Organization (IRO) has been thrown into the slammer. Unit States District Attorney James F. Phelps of Houston, Texas, revealed that United States agents arrested Arthur Gershon, an IRO administrative officer, on suspicion of gold smuggling.
