Anchorage, Alaska – Megan Lindsey O’Connor, 29, was sentenced to 36 months in prison for being a drug user in possession of a firearm and possessing an unregistered firearm. The sentencing occurred on June 26, 2015, in federal court in Anchorage.
O’Connor previously pled guilty to the charges on June 16, 2014. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder, O’Connor is an admitted methamphetamine user and is connected to convicted drug trafficker Max Jewett.
Jewett was sentenced in federal court on May 20, 2015, to 10 years imprisonment. In the summer of 2013, O’Connor rented a storage unit. When law enforcement officers searched the storage unit on November 18, 2013, they found 77 firearms, 27 of which had been stolen in the previous year.
The law enforcement officers also found a 17-inch sawed-off shotgun, a fully automatic machine gun, and silenced .44 magnum rifle. O’Connor pled guilty to possessing the silencer on the rifle. In addition, Jewett admitted that he regularly traded drugs for stolen property.
U.S. Attorney Karen L. Loeffler commends the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Anchorage Police Department for the investigation of this case.
O’Connor’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Sharon L. Gleason. This is a serious case with severe consequences for the defendant. The investigation and subsequent sentencing demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to keeping our communities safe.
