Bribery Rocks Jackson Police Department: Former Officer Pleads Guilty
Jackson, Miss. – In a shocking turn of events, former Jackson Police Officer Melvin Williams, 48, pleaded guilty to bribery in a federal court on February 17, 2017. The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis.
According to the investigation, Officer Williams contacted a local businessman and threatened to execute an arrest warrant if the businessman did not pay him a sum of money. The FBI determined that the arrest warrant was not valid, and the businessman agreed to cooperate with the FBI. Williams was paid a total of $6,000 over three separate days in February 2016.
