Memphis Bandits Hit Brink’s Truck, Armored Car & Circle K

MEMPHIS, TN – The grimy streets of Memphis witnessed a chilling double-whammy as two ruthless bandits struck a Circle K convenience store and a Brink’s armored truck guard at gunpoint. Today, U.S. Attorney Edward L. Stanton III dropped the hammer, announcing federal indictments for Cornelius Richmond, 48, and Roderick Herron, 50, both Memphians.

The duo allegedly hit the Circle K on North Germantown Parkway in Cordova on April 26, 2016, just three days before they allegedly robbed a Brink’s armored truck guard during cash loading at Regions Bank on Austin Peay Highway. Richmond and Herron now face two counts of robbery affecting interstate commerce and one count of brandishing a weapon during a crime of violence.

In a separate indictment, James Edward Lacey Jr., 31, is charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm on August 13, 2016, followed by robbing an armored car guard at MLGW office on August 18, 2016. Lacey faces one count of robbery affecting interstate commerce and one count of felony possession of a firearm.

Richmond and Herron risk up to 20 years in federal prison for their heists, with a mandatory minimum of five years for brandishing a weapon during a crime of violence. Lacey and Richmond face up to 10 years for felony firearm possession, with individual fines reaching $250,000.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s West Tennessee Violent Crime Task Force is tackling these cases, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Whitmore leading the prosecution.

Remember, the charges are merely accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
