A Harrison County man will be behind bars for over a decade after selling methamphetamine in the heart of a West Virginia community. Antwann Terrance Horton, 29, of Clarksburg, was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison and six years of supervised release for distributing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a protected location.
According to court documents, Horton’s illicit activities took place in Harrison County, where he was caught selling methamphetamine to potential customers. A disturbing aspect of his crimes was that one of these transactions occurred near a public playground in Clarksburg, putting innocent children at risk.
The case against Horton was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda Wesley on behalf of the United States. A thorough investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Greater Harrison Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative; and the Fairmont Police Department.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case, handing down the sentence that will keep Horton off the streets for the next 121 months. This lengthy prison term serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities, particularly those that put the safety of children at risk.
The prosecution’s efforts in this case demonstrate a commitment to holding individuals accountable for their actions and protecting the community from the scourge of methamphetamine. As the war on drugs continues, it is essential that those who engage in these activities are brought to justice and face the full weight of the law.
As Horton begins his prison sentence, the community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that a potential threat has been neutralized. However, it is also a sobering reminder that there is still much work to be done to eradicate the presence of methamphetamine in our communities.
