Meth Queen Tackman Gets 22 Years

BOISE, ID – Deann Tackman, 55, of Boise, will spend nearly 22 years in federal prison after being sentenced for flooding the Idaho Treasure Valley with a staggering amount of methamphetamine. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford, reflects the scope of Tackman’s operation and the devastation wrought by her greed.

Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott announced the 262-month sentence today, detailing how Tackman served as the Idaho hub for a sprawling, multi-state and even international drug trafficking organization. For five months, Tackman relentlessly pumped poison into the streets, supplying the Treasure Valley with enough methamphetamine to fuel addiction and misery for countless individuals. The investigation wasn’t confined to Idaho; it stretched across multiple federal districts, a testament to the reach of Tackman’s network.

Just weeks before her arrest, authorities discovered the sheer volume of Tackman’s operation. A search of her residence revealed over 36 individually wrapped packages, each weighing approximately one pound, stashed inside the gas tank of a recently delivered vehicle. In total, Tackman distributed over 60 pounds of methamphetamine – enough to ruin lives on a massive scale. This wasn’t small-time dealing; this was a calculated, large-scale enterprise built on exploitation and profit.

“Ms. Tackman’s drug trafficking organization flooded our state with immense quantities of dangerous methamphetamine,” Whatcott stated bluntly. “Fortunately for Idahoans, six law enforcement agencies worked together to dismantle the organization and stop the flow of methamphetamine. This appropriately severe sentence sends the message to drug traffickers that they are not welcome in Idaho.” The collaborative effort included the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Nampa Police Department Special Investigations Unit, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the Boise Police Department, the Meridian Police Department, and the Oregon High Desert Drug Task Force.

David F. Reames, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Seattle Field Division, didn’t mince words either. “Ms. Tackman preyed on Treasure Valley residents by poisoning our community with large quantities of methamphetamine, leaving a trail of misery in her wake,” Reames said. “I am proud that DEA and our partners were able to hold her to account for her crime with this lengthy sentence that she richly deserves.” Tackman will also serve five years of supervised release after completing her prison term.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling transnational criminal organizations and stemming the tide of illegal drugs. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morse successfully prosecuted the case, leveraging the resources of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). While one trafficker is behind bars, the fight against the relentless flow of drugs into Idaho, and the nation, continues. The Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) provided critical support to the multi-jurisdictional narcotics task forces involved.
