Methamphetamine Dealer Pleads Guilty
Marion, IL – A Williamson County resident has admitted to his role in a large-scale methamphetamine operation. Michael A. Boyt, Jr., 19, of Marion, pleaded guilty to one-count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine in federal court.
According to evidence presented in the plea hearing, Boyt, Jr. was involved in the manufacture of methamphetamine with his father, Michael Boyt, Sr., and others between 2013 and January 2015. During this time, Boyt, Jr. cooked methamphetamine and collected pseudoephedrine pills from others, which are commonly used to manufacture the substance.
On January 5, 2015, Boyt, Jr. sold methamphetamine to a confidential source working for law enforcement. The sale took place in Perry, Randolph, Williamson, Jackson, and Franklin Counties.
The ongoing investigation, led by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Steeleville Police Department, Coulterville Police Department, Sparta Police Department, Perry County Drug Task Force, and Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team, has resulted in the indictment of multiple individuals.
Co-defendants have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting jury trial. Boyt, Jr. is currently being held without bond pending a December 8, 2015, sentencing hearing.
The methamphetamine offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and a $1,000,000 fine. Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson will prosecute the case.
