Methamphetamine Dealer Gets 5 Years Behind Bars

A 60-month sentence has been handed down to Jamie Nichelle McKay, a woman from Alabama with a history of crime, for her involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.

According to court documents, McKay, 28, distributed 28 grams of the highly addictive substance with her co-defendant, Jay Kimberly Ponder. The distribution took place in violation of 21 USC § 846, which prohibits conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

McKay pleaded guilty to the charges on March 17, 2017, before Chief Judge Kristi K. DuBose of the United States District Court. The guilty plea led to the sentencing decision, which was handed down on June 30, 2017.

The case was a result of a federal investigation conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, the Mobile Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service.

Assistant United States Attorney Lawrence J. Bullard prosecuted the case for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama. The office was instrumental in bringing McKay to justice for her role in the methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.

The sentence will be followed by 4 years of supervised release. McKay’s extensive criminal history likely played a factor in the sentencing decision, as she has been involved in various crimes in the past.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking and organized crime in the United States. The efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors continue to help keep communities safe from the dangers of methamphetamine and other illicit substances.
