Jalein Young, Armed Drug Trafficking, North Carolina 2024

A 27-year-old Charlotte resident has been sentenced to 11.5 years in prison for his role in an armed drug trafficking operation.

Jalein Young was convicted of transfer of a machinegun and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl after selling a machinegun conversion device, also known as a Glock switch, to an undercover law enforcement agent in 2024.

The Glock switch allowed the firearm to be converted from a semiautomatic weapon to one capable of fully automatic fire.

Young also agreed to sell 5,000 fentanyl pills to an undercover agent in March 2024. However, investigators intercepted Young and found over 5,000 pills in his vehicle, with laboratory analysis revealing at least 504 grams of fentanyl.

Further investigation led to the discovery of an additional 1,532 pills weighing approximately 358 grams in Young’s garage.

Young attempted to sell 4,000 additional fentanyl pills to the undercover agent in May 2024, but was arrested while trying to fly to the Dominican Republic on a one-way ticket.

Young, 27, of Charlotte, N.C., was ordered to serve 138 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The ATF conducted the investigation, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte prosecuted the case.

• Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl

The crimes took place in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jalein Young’s sentencing occurred on an unspecified date. He was arrested in May 2024.
