BOSTON MAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING FIREARM TO FELON
A Dorchester man has been sentenced to 87 months in prison and three years of supervised release for knowingly selling a firearm and ammunition to a felon. Michael Browne, 49, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin on an unspecified date.
According to court documents, on Oct. 4, 2010, Browne sold a .357 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver and four bullets for $700 to an individual he knew had been previously convicted of a felony offense. The sale of a firearm to a felon is a serious federal offense, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The investigation into Browne’s activities was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, with assistance from the Boston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Tobin of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
