In a highly publicized federal case, Michael Coston, a 35-year-old resident of Baltimore, was charged with multiple violent crimes. The case, known as United States vs. Michael Coston, was filed on August 31, 2020, in the Maryland District Federal Court.
Coston was accused of participating in a string of armed robberies and shootings across the state of Maryland. The charges against him included one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, five counts of armed robbery, and five counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence.
According to court documents, the investigation into Coston’s activities began in the summer of 2019, when law enforcement agencies received reports of a series of armed robberies in the Baltimore area. Over the course of several months, authorities were able to gather evidence linking Coston to the crimes, including eyewitness testimony and forensic evidence from crime scenes.
On January 15, 2022, Coston pleaded guilty to all charges against him. As part of his plea agreement, he agreed to cooperate with authorities in their ongoing investigation into the crimes. The sentencing hearing for Coston was scheduled for April 5, 2022. At that time, he faced up to 60 years in prison.
At the sentencing hearing, Coston’s lawyers argued that he had taken responsibility for his actions and had shown remorse for his crimes. However, prosecutors argued that Coston’s involvement in the armed robberies put the lives of multiple people at risk.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Coston to 45 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $20,000 and to serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.
