Michael Morrison, Gang Prosecution, Georgia 2020

MACON, Ga. – A notorious gang prosecutor is putting his skills to use on the federal level, as Michael Morrison joins the US Attorney’s Office in Georgia, officials announced Monday. Morrison, a former Gwinnett County Managing Assistant District Attorney, was sworn in as an Assistant US Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, said Charles "Charlie" Peeler, the US Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.

The swearing-in ceremony, conducted remotely by phone due to social distancing restrictions, marked a new chapter in Morrison’s career. With over a decade of experience as a prosecutor, Morrison has earned a reputation for trying complex, large-scale drug trafficking and violent criminal street gang cases. His expertise has been recognized by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI-Atlanta Gang Unit, which nominated him for a 2019 FBI Director’s Award for his role in the state murder trial of Nine Trey Gangster Bloods leader Gordon Evans.

Morrison’s most recent achievement includes being nominated, along with members of the Atlanta-Carolinas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) drug task force, for a separate award for his role as the lead prosecutor in a lengthy wiretap investigation targeting an Atlanta-based cell of the notorious Cartel De Jalisco Nueva Generacion, better known as CJNG.

"Mike is one of the most effective criminal street gang and drug trafficking prosecutors in the state, known for his expertise handling complex cases against dangerous individuals," said US Attorney Charlie Peeler. "We are working tirelessly alongside our law enforcement partners to crack down on violent gang and drug activity across the Middle District. Mike strengthens this effort, and we are extremely pleased to have him on our team."

Morrison’s appointment comes as part of the US Attorney’s Office’s efforts to combat violent gang and drug activity in the Middle District. With his wealth of experience and knowledge, Morrison is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against organized crime.
