Adelanto, California resident Michael Otis-Currie, 27, is headed to federal prison for over a decade after being sentenced for his sick obsession with child pornography. The sentence isn’t just about the images he viewed; it’s about a pattern of depravity that continued even after he’d already been busted for the same crime.
Federal prosecutors revealed Otis-Currie was part of a particularly vile KIK group, “you.ngshare,” dedicated to sharing and discussing the sexual abuse of children. Back in October 2020, an undercover officer infiltrated the group, discovering it housed around 400 users trading horrific content. Otis-Currie didn’t just browse – he uploaded a folder containing over 2,250 image and video files, many depicting rape and torture of young victims. A separate subfolder, chillingly labeled “Incest,” held another 250 disturbing files.
This wasn’t a first offense. Otis-Currie was already on supervised probation in California after being convicted of possessing child pornography in 2019. That didn’t stop him. A search of his phone uncovered even *more* saved images and videos, proving his depravity wasn’t a momentary lapse, but a sustained, sickening habit. He admitted to being a regular in multiple online groups dedicated to this filth.
On September 11, 2022, Otis-Currie pleaded guilty. Yesterday, U.S. District Court handed down a 121-month prison sentence, followed by ten years of supervised release. The feds, led by the FBI’s Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department, built a solid case, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Janani Iyengar and Rachel Forman drove it home. The Los Angeles Field Office also assisted in the investigation.
The sentence sends a clear message: exploiting children will not be tolerated. This isn’t just about punishing Otis-Currie; it’s about protecting the most vulnerable in our society. The judge clearly understood the lasting trauma inflicted on these victims and the need to keep this predator far away from any potential future harm.
But the fight is far from over. The internet remains a breeding ground for this type of abuse. Law enforcement needs constant vigilance, and citizens need to be aware. If you see something suspicious – anything – involving potential child exploitation, report it immediately to local authorities or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline. This is a community problem, and we all have a responsibility to protect our kids.
This case highlights the dark underbelly of online activity and the tireless work of law enforcement to combat it. While a lengthy prison sentence is a victory, the real victory will come when we eradicate this horrific abuse and provide a safe environment for all children.
The feds will continue to pursue these cases aggressively. They’re sending a message to anyone involved in the distribution or possession of child pornography: you will be found, you will be prosecuted, and you will pay the price.
