Michael Sartin, Methamphetamine Distribution, AR 2023

Fayetteville man Michael Sartin, 54, is headed to federal prison for more than 19 years after being sentenced to 235 months for distributing methamphetamine in Northwest Arkansas. The conviction marks the end of a multi-year investigation into a steady flow of high-purity meth moving through the region.

Sartin was sentenced yesterday in the United States District Court in Fayetteville, where Judge Timothy L. Brooks handed down the stiff penalty. In addition to prison time, Sartin must serve five years of supervised release and pay a $10,000.00 fine. He pleaded guilty in September 2018 to one count of Distribution of Methamphetamine.

The case traces back to 2017, when the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force began dismantling a network of meth distributors in the Western District of Arkansas. Sartin quickly emerged as a key player, selling bulk quantities to undercover operatives over several monitored transactions.

During the investigation, law enforcement arranged controlled buys from Sartin, recovering approximately 530 grams of methamphetamine. The substance, lab-tested and confirmed as high-grade, underscored the scale and danger of the operation feeding addiction across the region.

Indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2018, Sartin’s guilty plea avoided a trial but did not soften the blow of federal sentencing guidelines for drug trafficking. Prosecutors, led by Assistant United States Attorney Denis Dean, emphasized Sartin’s role in fueling the drug crisis in Northwest Arkansas.

The case was investigated by the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas, led by Duane (DAK) Kees. Authorities say the sentence sends a clear message: those profiting from the meth trade will face severe consequences.
