A Cottage Grove man has been brought to justice for a string of brazen bank robberies. Michael Thomas Prall, 43, pleaded guilty to bank robbery in a Minneapolis federal court.
According to court documents, Prall used force, violence, and intimidation to steal thousands of dollars from three separate banks in November 2021. The defendant stole approximately $2,558 from a U.S. Bank in Bloomington on November 5, 2021. Just two weeks later, Prall stole $4,589 from a Bremer Bank in Woodbury. The defendant’s final heist occurred on November 30, 2021, when he stole $775 from a Wells Fargo bank in Cottage Grove.
Prall pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz. A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.
The investigation into Prall’s crimes was a collaborative effort between the FBI, the Cottage Grove Police Department, the Woodbury Police Department, the Bloomington Police Department, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Washington County Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander D. Chiquoine is prosecuting the case.
Prall’s guilty plea brings an end to a series of high-profile bank robberies that left the community shaken. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in fighting crime.
As the case moves forward, authorities are urging anyone with information about Prall’s crimes to come forward.
