BOISE — The grimy streets of Boise were the scene of a high-stakes heist as Michigan residents Devin Arthur Searcy, 23, and Juwuan Demilo Gordon, 27, hit local retail stores with stolen credit card numbers, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael Gonzalez.
The duo pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, a charge that carries a severe penalty of up to 20 years in the clink, $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. Searcy’s guilty plea came on the same day he was caught, while Gordon’s followed on April 24th.
Their Boise shopping spree began on January 6th and 10th, 2017, when they set out to defraud with counterfeit credit and debit cards. The grand jury in Boise indicted them back in February 2017 for their fraudulent activities.
Law enforcement struck gold on January 11th, catching Searcy and Gordon near the Boise Airport. They had about 105 gift cards and prepaid debit cards purchased with stolen funds in tow. But this was just the beginning of their cross-country crime spree, as they’d also made fraudulent purchases in Colorado, Utah, and Oklahoma.
Sentencing for these two is set to wrap up on July 26th and 27th before Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the federal courthouse in Boise, where justice will be served for their wire fraud conspiracy.
Investigation into this sordid affair was a joint effort by the Boise Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service, ensuring that these felons won’t be able to shoplift their way out of trouble.
