Middleburgh, NY – In a shocking case of firearm possession, Aaron M. Bowman, a 33-year-old man from Middleburgh, New York, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm that he advertised for sale on Facebook.
According to the investigation, Bowman had posted photos of a Smith & Wesson model 432PD .32 caliber revolver to his Facebook page and offered to sell it six months prior to his arrest. As a felon, Bowman was prohibited from possessing the revolver and ammunition, which he admitted to possessing on March 11, 2016.
Bowman, who has a history of felony convictions, including six previous convictions, was initially charged with felony possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty to the charge on November 3, 2016, and has now been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino.
As part of his sentence, Bowman will serve three years of supervised release after his release from prison. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) and the New York State Police, with the assistance of the Schoharie County District Attorney’s Office.
The ATF and the New York State Police, with the assistance of the Schoharie County District Attorney’s Office, worked together to bring Bowman to justice. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barnett.
U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian, Special Agent in Charge Ashan M. Benedict of the New York Field Office of the ATF, and New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II made the announcement.
Bowman’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of firearm possession for those with prior felony convictions.
