Minneapolis Gang Member Convicted of Murder, RICO Charges

MINNEAPOLIS – William Johnson, a 35-year-old Minneapolis gang member, was found guilty today in federal court of murder and participating in a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy. The conviction follows a two-week trial that exposed the残酷 realities of the Highs gang’s influence over northern Minneapolis.

Johnson was a steadfast member of the Highs, a notorious street gang known for its ruthless tactics and violent control over their territory. His role in the gang included orchestrating retaliatory attacks against rival gangs, particularly the Lows. The Highs’ reign of terror reached its deadly peak on August 7, 2021, when a prominent Highs member was gunned down by a Lows affiliate at a local gas station.

According to Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, ‘This conviction is a critical step in dismantling violent gangs that terrorize our communities.’ Special Agent in Charge Travis Riddle of ATF St. Paul Field Division echoed the sentiment: ‘ATF and its partners are committed to ending senseless gang violence and bringing justice to victims like Johnson’s victims.’

Today’s sentence could mean life imprisonment for Johnson, who was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The jury also found him guilty of firearms violations, assaults, and robbery – charges that painted a clear picture of his role in the Highs’ criminal enterprise.

Inspector in Charge Bryan Musgrove of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Denver Division emphasized the agency’s dedication to stopping illegal activities: ‘We will target anyone who uses the U.S. Mail to conduct and fund illegal enterprises, ensuring communities can feel safe from terroristic gangs like the Highs.’

This conviction serves as a stark warning to all gang members that their actions will not be tolerated. The justice system has delivered a decisive blow against the Highs, but the fight against organized crime continues.
