ST. PAUL, Minn. – A federal jury has delivered a resounding guilty verdict against Raphael Raymond Nunn, 52, of Minneapolis, charging him with kidnapping, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft, following a series of brazen robberies that shook the community.
The defendant was caught red-handed after forcing a woman at gunpoint to withdraw cash from an ATM on September 13, 2022. Nunn’s criminal spree didn’t end there; he continued to terrorize victims, robbing one and stealing from another, all while defrauding bank accounts with the stolen identities of his victims.
Surveillance footage caught Nunn exiting a victim’s vehicle and entering a local grocery store, where police later found him driving a car registered under his name. His address was discovered after investigators tracked down the vehicle, leading to his capture on September 22, 2022.
Nunn faced Judge Eric C. Tostrud in a four-day trial, culminating in yesterday’s conviction on one count of kidnapping, two counts of bank fraud, and two counts of aggravated identity theft. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for a later date.
U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger heralded the jury’s decision as a victory against crime, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the FBI, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Oak Park Police Department, and the Hudson Police Department in their investigation of Nunn’s criminal activities.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Albania Concepcion and Lauren O. Roso successfully prosecuted the case, ensuring justice for the victims who suffered at the hands of this predatory criminal. As Minneapolis reels from these events, the conviction serves as a stark reminder of the city’s ongoing battle against violent crime and financial fraud.
