William Robertson, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, South Dakota 2012

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

William Robertson, a 21-year-old man from Mission, South Dakota, has pleaded guilty to Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release and an additional 2 years of supervised release upon revocation. Restitution and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund may also be ordered.

The conviction stems from an incident on October 4, 2012, in which Robertson and the victim began an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. Robertson grabbed a wooden guitar and began striking the victim about the head and body with the guitar. The victim managed to get away from Robertson and sought treatment for her injuries.

The investigation was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuted the case.

Roberston was released on bond pending sentencing, which has been set for August 27, 2013.

According to the U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson, the case highlights the need for stricter penalties for violent crimes. ‘This case demonstrates the severity of the consequences for committing violent acts,’ Johnson said.

Robertson’s guilty plea marks a significant milestone in the case, and it is expected that he will face significant penalties for his actions. The community is left to wonder what drove Robertson to commit such a violent act, and whether he will receive the punishment he deserves.

The case has left many questioning the root causes of violence in society and what can be done to prevent such crimes from occurring in the future.
