Mom and Son Duo Pleaded Guilty in Florida Meth Ring

GRIMY NEWS FLASH: A mother and son pair from Tampa, Florida, have been hit with serious charges after being caught in a massive methamphetamine distribution ring.

Kanethia Tremeka Steele, 51, and her son, Kenneth Steele, 30, both pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This dirty duo was busted after a multi-agency operation that spanned over three years.

The mother, Kanethia, hailing from Tampa, is accused of procuring large quantities of the drug from suppliers in Arizona for distribution across North Florida. Her son, Kenneth, from Phoenix, played a sinister role by transporting multi-kilogram shipments of methamphetamine via commercial flights, totaling over 40 pounds, to his mother.

U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin expressed his office’s dedication to ‘Take Back America’ against such drug traffickers. The successful elimination of this enterprise was a result of collaborative efforts with law enforcement partners like the DEA and Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office.

Sentencing for Kenneth Steele is set for July 22, while Kanethia will face her fate on September 30, both at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville. The Steeles’ convictions are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat illegal immigration and drug cartels.

This case underscores the relentless pursuit of justice by the Department of Justice and its partners in the fight against organized crime. For more information, visit the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida website.
