Mon Vert Cafe, ADA Non-Compliance, Vermont 2013

Woodstock, Vermont – In a shocking turn of events, Mon Vert Cafe, a popular restaurant in Woodstock, Vermont, has been found to be in non-compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). According to a recent investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont, the restaurant’s owners, Laura Miller and Cameron Reed, have agreed to complete specific modifications to come into compliance with Title III of the ADA.

The investigation, which began following a complaint made to the Vermont Human Rights Commission, revealed ADA compliance issues related to the restaurant’s entrance and toilet room. An onsite survey performed by United States architects revealed that the restaurant was not in compliance with the ADA’s requirements.

Mon Vert Cafe’s owners and the owner of the building in which the restaurant is located, John Reed, have recognized their obligation to address the issues identified in the onsite survey. They have agreed to remedy the agreed-upon ADA compliance issues by November 30, 2013.

Assistant United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest, with assistance from the Disability Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division, handled this matter on behalf of the United States and is working with other Vermont businesses to resolve their ADA compliance issues.

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont worked in partnership with Tracey Tsugawa of the Vermont Human Rights Commission in addressing and resolving these important civil rights issues.

Further information on the ADA and its requirements may be found at www.ada.gov.
