SCRANTON, PA — In a decisive blow against the shadowy drug trade, Pernell Riddick, a 36-year-old from Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 180 months behind bars for his role in a sprawling drug trafficking operation. United States District Judge Julia K. Munley imposed the stiff sentence, capping off a swift legal process that saw Riddick’s capture and conviction.
Riddick, who was caught with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine on September 2, 2022, in Monroe County, also faced charges for possessing firearms. He was found with both a Smith & Wesson 9-millimeter handgun and a Taurus G2C 9-millimeter pistol.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus emphasized that Riddick’s sentence is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and safeguarding communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
The investigation into Riddick’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Tatum R. Wilson led the prosecution, ensuring that justice was served for those affected by the drug trade.
Riddick’s sentence sends a powerful message to those who would dare traffic drugs in Monroe County and beyond. His conviction is a testament to the effectiveness of Operation Take Back America and the tireless work of law enforcement agencies committed to making our streets safer.
