Kendrick Darnell Williams, 27, of Monroe, Louisiana, is headed to federal prison for nearly six years after being caught with two loaded handguns, a high-capacity drum magazine, and multiple rounds of ammunition during a traffic stop gone sideways. Williams was sentenced to 71 months — five years and 11 months — by U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty, followed by three years of supervised release.
The arrest unfolded on October 17, 2017, when Monroe police pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. Williams, riding in the passenger seat, bolted the moment officers approached. He didn’t get far. Cops tackled him nearby and brought him back, where a search of the car revealed a Ruger .357-caliber revolver and a stolen Smith & Wesson .9 mm pistol, both loaded, stashed in a hidden void behind the glove compartment.
More firepower followed. Officers uncovered a 60-round Magpul drum-style magazine in the back seat and a mix of .45, .380, and .40-caliber ammunition in the trunk — eight rounds total. Ballistics checks confirmed the Smith & Wesson had been reported stolen. Williams admitted to handling the stolen weapon before the stop, sealing his fate under federal law.
Williams is a convicted felon, having pleaded guilty to aggravated second-degree battery in Ouachita Parish on April 26, 2012. That conviction stripped him of any legal right to possess firearms or ammunition — a fact federal prosecutors hammered home when he pleaded guilty to federal charges on January 30, 2019.
The investigation was a joint push by the ATF, Ouachita Parish Metro Narcotics Unit, and Monroe Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike O’Mara handled the prosecution, underscoring the federal crackdown on repeat offenders flooding streets with illegal guns.
The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the DOJ’s signature initiative to dismantle violent crime networks. PSN targets the most dangerous offenders through coordinated enforcement, local intelligence, and reentry programs. Williams’ sentence sends a clear message: felons caught playing with fire will pay with years behind bars.
