PROVIDENCE, RI – Carl D. Montague, 37, of Rhode Island, is facing a slew of federal charges after allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump, former United States Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. The threats, spewed online, prompted a swift response from federal authorities and Montague’s arrest this morning.
According to court documents, Montague unleashed a profanity-laced tirade on Truth Social on June 27, 2025, explicitly stating his intention to shoot and kill the three high-profile figures. The FBI, United States Secret Service, and Providence Police Department quickly converged on the case, identifying Montague as the source of the menacing posts.
Montague is charged with threats against the President; interstate threats; threats to assault; and kidnap, or murder of a United States official, judge, or law enforcement officer. These are serious charges that carry significant penalties if he’s convicted. He was taken into custody without incident and is scheduled to appear before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Amy E. Moses at 1:00 PM today for his initial court appearance.
Acting Rhode Island United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom didn’t mince words in announcing the arrest. “Threats against public officials, especially the President and those working to uphold the law, will not be tolerated,” she stated.
