Monte Barry, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Pennsylvania 2018

A 20-year-old Wilkinsburg resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating the federal firearms laws.

The one-count Indictment named Monte Barry, 20, of Wilkinsburg, Pa.

According to the Indictment, on or about October 3, 2018, Barry, being a convicted felon, did knowingly and unlawfully possess a 9mm caliber Taurus handgun.

It is unlawful for Barry, who has previously been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, to possess a firearm.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Adam N. Hallowell is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts.
