COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 60-year-old Kevin Timothy Morrissey of Oakland, Iowa, has been sentenced to 180 months in prison for his conviction on two counts of receipt and possession of child pornography.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, Morrissey was found guilty by a jury on December 21, 2016, following a routine home visit by law enforcement in January of 2016. During this visit, investigators discovered Morrissey accessing the internet in violation of his parole supervision conditions.
Further examination of electronic devices seized from Morrissey’s Oakland residence revealed numerous images and one video of child pornography. This disturbing evidence led to Morrissey’s conviction and subsequent sentencing.
Morrissey’s sentence includes 180 months in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release. He has also been ordered to pay a $15,000 fine. This harsh sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in such heinous crimes.
The investigation into Morrissey’s crimes was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation Task Force, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation – Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Iowa Probation and Parole Office for the 4th Judicial District, and the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office.
