Mother-Son Duo Guilty of Meth Distribution from AZ to FL

Gainesville, FL – A chilling mother-son duo has been exposed in a massive methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. Kanethia Tremeka Steele, 51, of Tampa, along with her son Kenneth Steele, 30, from Phoenix, Arizona, have both pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin for the Northern District of Florida, ‘The importation and distribution of deadly narcotics like methamphetamine is a scourge in North Florida.’ The Steeles are accused of importing kilogram quantities of meth and cocaine over three years from suppliers in Arizona.

Keneth Steele played a pivotal role in transporting multi-kilogram shipments of the drug on commercial flights. He made three trips, totaling over 40 pounds of methamphetamine, which was then distributed in North Florida. Sentencing for Kenneth is set for July 22nd, while Kanethia’s sentencing is scheduled for September 30, 2025.

The investigation was a joint effort between the DEA and the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Corey Smith and Jason Coody are handling the prosecution. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to eliminate drug traffickers and protect communities from violent crime.

Heekin emphasized, ‘The elimination of this drug trafficking enterprise is the result of incredible work by our law enforcement partners.’ For more information on the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, visit their website.
