JACKSONVILLE, FL – A man wanted internationally for murder is in federal custody after being apprehended in Duval County, authorities announced today. Pedro Danilo Espinoza-Guiffaro, 34, a citizen of Honduras, faces federal charges of illegal reentry after being previously deported from the United States, but the underlying Interpol Red Notice for Murder in his home country raises far more sinister questions.
United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe confirmed the arrest, stating that Espinoza-Guiffaro was taken into custody following a targeted operation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The feds had been tracking the suspect, knowing he was the subject of an active Interpol Red Notice – essentially an international arrest warrant – for a murder committed in Honduras.
According to the criminal complaint, Espinoza-Guiffaro was previously ordered removed from the U.S. and physically deported in both 2022 and 2024. Immigration officials found no record of any application or approval for him to legally return. This brazen disregard for U.S. immigration law is now compounded by the gravity of the alleged crime he’s accused of back home. He’s currently being held on the illegal reentry charge, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in federal prison.
While the immediate charge is a relatively minor federal offense, the circumstances surrounding Espinoza-Guiffaro’s presence in the U.S. are deeply concerning. The FBI and HSI are likely coordinating with Honduran authorities to gather evidence related to the murder investigation. Details of the alleged crime remain scarce, but the existence of an Interpol notice suggests it was a serious offense.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rachel Lasry and falls under the umbrella of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide initiative touted by the Department of Justice. The operation aims to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. It combines resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
It’s crucial to remember that a criminal complaint is not a conviction. Espinoza-Guiffaro is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, his history of deportation and the outstanding murder warrant paint a disturbing picture, and the Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it unfolds, digging for the truth behind the allegations and the suspect’s past.
