A convicted airline pilot from Pittsburgh has gone on the run after leaving his home during supervised release, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Mustafa Bazbaz, 28, was convicted in August of the felony offense of ‘Travel with Intent to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct.’
Bazbaz was on bond and under electronic monitoring in Western Pennsylvania until last week, when he was allowed to leave his home to attend a worship service. However, he never returned, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has released a statement warning the public about the dangers posed by Bazbaz, who is a trained pilot with a wealthy family and substantial means.
‘The hunt for Mr. Bazbaz is unique in that he’s a trained pilot, he comes from a wealthy family with substantial means, he’s a convicted child predator, and he faces a lengthy prison sentence once he’s captured,’ said U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II.
Bazbaz was convicted of communicating with a 15-year-old female from Jefferson County, Ohio, in December 2013 via the website MeetMe.com. He misrepresented his age and name to the victim, claiming to be 17 years old and named ‘Mike B.’
Bazbaz sent sexually explicit images of himself to the victim before arranging to pick her up in her home in Jefferson County in December 2013. They then engaged in sexual intercourse at a hotel room in Hancock County.
The public is urged to contact the United States Marshals Service at 304-218-9286 with any information regarding the whereabouts of Bazbaz. He was last seen driving a silver Buick Century with California License Plate Number 6YUTO65.
The case is still ongoing, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office is working to track down Bazbaz before he harms anyone else.
