COVINGTON, Ky. – Nalisha Nichole Stewart, a 38-year-old woman from Elsemere, Kentucky, was locked away for 10.5 years after being sentenced by U.S. District Judge David Bunning on Thursday for methamphetamine trafficking.
The sentence came after Stewart’s plea agreement revealed her involvement in two controlled purchases of the illegal substance with intent to distribute. The first transaction resulted in a seizure of approximately 29.2 grams, while an additional 24.832 grams were recovered during a traffic stop on her vehicle prior to the second purchase.
Under federal law, Stewart is required to serve 85 percent of her prison term, which, upon completion, will be followed by six years of supervision by the U.S. Probation Office.
Court documents show that the investigation was a joint effort between the DEA and the Florence Police Department Drug Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Winslow handled the prosecution on behalf of the United States.
United States Attorney Carlton S. Shier, IV; Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene of the DEA Detroit Field Division; and Chief Jeff Mallery of the Florence Police Department jointly announced the sentence, underscoring the gravity of Stewart’s crime within Kentucky’s Eastern District.
