Nesbit Accused of Bank Heist in Fort Lee

Newark, N.J. – The grimy streets of Fort Lee were hit with a wave of shock as Isaac Nesbit, 30-year-old from New York, was charged today for robbing the Bank of New Jersey. U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman broke the news, charging Nesbit with one count of bank robbery.

According to the complaint, Nesbit made his move on January 20, 2017. He allegedly entered the Fort Lee branch and handed a threatening note to the teller, demanding cash while wielding a gun. After escaping with stolen funds, law enforcement found the note and Nesbit’s clothes in a nearby dumpster. A swift response led to Nesbit’s apprehension, and they recovered the cash from his back pocket.

Nesbit is currently detained at the Bergen County Jail on state charges related to the heist. The bank robbery charge against him carries a heavy penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine reaching $250,000 or twice the amount of the gain or loss.

U.S. Attorney Fishman commended the efforts of special agents with the FBI, directed by Special Agent in Charge Timothy Gallagher; the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal; and the Fort Lee Police Department, under Chief Keith M. Bendul.

The government is being represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sammi Malek of the U.S. Attorney’s Office General Crimes Unit in Newark. As always, the charges and allegations are mere accusations, and Nesbit is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
