Nevada Felon Sentenced for Gun Possession

BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a brutal display of disregard for the law, 43-year-old Justin Hall, a convicted felon from Wellington, Nevada, has been sentenced to time served for his brazen attempt to possess firearms.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Hall was convicted of being a prohibited person in possession of firearms. His sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo, is a slap on the wrist for the egregious crime.

The charges against Hall stemmed from a May 2021 arrest in Gardnerville, Nevada, where he was caught possessing a firearm. However, it was not until May 2022, when the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Buffalo received information from the Nevada FBI that Hall was traveling in the Buffalo area, that law enforcement was able to apprehend him once again.

On May 22, 2022, Hall was pulled over on Interstate 90 near the Transit Road exit in a motor vehicle stop. A search of his vehicle uncovered a staggering three firearms, over 1,200 rounds of various caliber ammunition, and five magazines. The sheer scope of Hall’s arsenal is a chilling reminder of the dangers posed by individuals like him who refuse to abide by the law.

Hall’s history of crime is well-documented. In March 2017, he was convicted of a misdemeanor crime of Domestic Battery in Nevada, rendering him legally prohibited from possessing firearms. It is inexcusable that he would continue to defy the law, putting himself and others at risk.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia. Additional assistance was provided by the Douglas County, Nevada Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada FBI. The lack of severe punishment in this case sends a disturbing message that the justice system is not equipped to handle the most egregious crimes.
