Nevada Woman Floyd Gets Stiff Sentence for Meth Trafficking, Flight from Justice

PIERRE, SD — A Nevada woman has been handed a severe sentence for methamphetamine trafficking and dodging justice. Dawn Eagle Feather Floyd, 42, of Sparks, Nevada, was sentenced by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange to eight years and three months in federal prison following her conviction on drug charges and failure to appear.

Floyd was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and failing to appear for her trial. She received concurrent sentences of six and half years for the drug convictions and an additional one year and eight months for the failure to appear charge, which were served consecutively.

The sentencing followed Floyd’s plea on April 15, 2024, regarding the Failure to Appear charge and a federal jury trial that concluded on March 29, 2024. Floyd had agreed to distribute methamphetamine within the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in Nebraska while living there in 2019.

During an investigation, over 100 grams of 100 percent pure meth were recovered from Floyd’s residence, vehicle, and person. The defendant was also responsible for obtaining meth from Colorado and bringing it back to Valentine, Nebraska, for distribution on the reservation.

Floyd fled the District of South Dakota while awaiting trial and was arrested in Nevada before being returned to face justice. She will be on supervised release for four years after her prison term. Floyd has been ordered to pay a $1000 fine and a $300 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

This case was a collaborative effort between the FBI, Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, and the Valentine Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted Floyd. She has been remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service immediately following sentencing.
