New Orleans Fentanyl Peddler Sentenced to 30 Months
A 38-year-old New Orleans man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in the city’s deadly fentanyl trade.
Carlos Guillen, 38, a resident of New Orleans, was sentenced on April 25, 2024, after pleading guilty to distribution of Fentanyl, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(B) and 841(b)(1)(C).
According to court documents, on or about August 16, 2023, Guillen sold Fentanyl to undercover special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in New Orleans.
Chief United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown handed down the sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. Guillen was also ordered to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in bringing Guillen to justice. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Maria M. Carboni of the Financial Crimes Unit.
The sentence is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl on our communities. As our city continues to grapple with the opioid epidemic, it’s clear that those responsible for peddling this deadly substance will be held accountable.
