Niagara Falls Dad Accused of Meth & Gun Smuggling

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A father from Niagara Falls is facing serious federal charges after U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced his arrest for attempting to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes.

The alleged activities of Andrew Medina, 29, were uncovered during a joint investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan E. Leydecker, a federal search warrant led to the discovery of approximately 1.14 pounds of methamphetamine in a parcel on September 1, 2020. The parcel was later retrieved by Medina from the porch of a Niagara Falls residence, along with a young child.

Further investigation revealed that Medina had opened the package inside the home and discarded it after returning. A subsequent search warrant at the residence yielded a pistol with a loaded magazine and $15,000 in cash.

The charges against Medina carry a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison and could result in a life sentence.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
