Nicholas James Stacy, Possessing and Transporting Child Pornography, Oregon 2018

PORTLAND, Ore. – Grimy Times has learned that a 24-year-old Clackamas man has been accused of possessing and transporting child pornography. Nicholas James Stacy made an initial appearance today in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie F. Beckerman, where he was ordered detained pending trial.

The court unsealed a criminal complaint alleging that Stacy possessed in excess of 9,000 videos and 20,000 images depicting child pornography on his iPhone and uploaded at least 94 files containing child pornography to his Gmail account. Stacy’s online activities were first identified by Google and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Stacy was arrested by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office on September 11, 2018, and the investigation is being conducted jointly with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). “This case highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and technology companies to combat child exploitation,” said an HSI official.

HSI and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office are urging parents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. “If a child discloses an incident that did happen to him or her or that the child observed an inappropriate incident happen to someone else, the parent should not ask the child detailed questions about the incident,” the agencies advised. “Instead, please contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (503) 723-4949 or call HSI at (360) 693-7712.”

A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Stacy’s case is a reminder of the importance of protecting children from exploitation and abuse.

The images of Stacy provided by law enforcement show a stark contrast in the man’s appearance over the years. A 2013 image shows Stacy as a young man, while a March 2018 image captures him at 25 years old. A current image of Stacy, taken recently, shows him with a more mature appearance.

The community is urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. “This case serves as a reminder that child exploitation is a serious crime that affects families and communities nationwide,” said an HSI official.
