New York – In a groundbreaking move against the entertainment industry’s biggest players, New York Attorney General Letitia James today declared that her office would not accept the settlement offered by Live Nation/Ticketmaster in their ongoing lawsuit. The AG has been leading a coalition of state attorneys general against the concert promoter and ticketing giant for years.
“For years, Live Nation has reaped immense profits through its illegal monopoly, driving up costs for shows and taking advantage of fans, venues, and artists,” James stated. “Our lawsuit is not just about holding Live Nation accountable; it’s about restoring fair competition to the live entertainment industry.”
The proposed settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice has been dismissed by the NY AG as inadequate, suggesting that it would actually benefit Live Nation at the expense of consumers.
“We have a strong case against Live Nation, and we are committed to continuing our lawsuit without federal government support,” James emphasized. “This fight is crucial for securing justice for all those harmed by Live Nation’s monopolistic practices.”
The coalition of state attorneys general supporting New York includes representatives from 24 states plus the District of Columbia. Assistant Attorneys General Jonathan Hatch, Luisa di Lauro, Pratik Agarwal, and Juliana Karp are leading the case for New York under the supervision of Deputy Bureau Chief Amy McFarlane and Bureau Chief Elinor Hoffmann.
The Antitrust Bureau, part of the Division of Economic Justice, is spearheading this effort. The division is led by Chief Deputy Attorney General Chris D’Angelo and overseen by First Deputy Attorney General Jennifer Levy.
