Ocala Felon Lewis Tinson Jr. Arrested for Gun Possession

OCALA, FL – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has announced the arrest of Lewis Tinson, Jr., 29, of Ocala, on charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Tinson faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison for each count, totaling up to 20 years.

Tinson is a four-time convicted felon, with his most recent convictions including carjacking with a firearm and shooting at a vehicle within a three-year span. His illegal possession of firearms has been an ongoing issue; on August 27, 2021, Tinson was found in possession of three firearms and multiple types of ammunition. He was again caught with a firearm and ammunition on September 6, 2021.

Under federal law, convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Despite this, Tinson has repeatedly violated these restrictions. The charges against him stem from his latest illegal possession of firearms.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in the community. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ocala Police Department.

‘An indictment is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a federal criminal offense,’ Handberg reminds readers. ‘Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until proven guilty.’
