Ocala Felon Sentenced to Over 17 Years for Guns & Meth

Ocala, FL – In a brutal turn of events for the city’s criminal underworld, Aaron Haa (42), a convicted felon with over 21 prior state felony convictions, was sentenced to 17 years and 7 months in federal prison. The sentence came after Haa was caught with a firearm and methamphetamine, charges that carry severe penalties.

Haa’s downfall began on December 9, 2020, when he was stopped by state authorities for a traffic violation. What followed would lead to his second arrest just weeks later. During the high-speed chase on U.S. 441, Haa displayed little regard for human life as he fled into oncoming traffic, eventually flipping his vehicle.

Upon his capture, law enforcement uncovered another firearm and 70 grams of methamphetamine in Haa’s possession. The discovery of these illegal items sealed his fate as a violent criminal intent on distributing drugs and wielding firearms with abandon.

Haa’s previous offenses include trafficking in controlled substances, fleeing and eluding police, and selling controlled substances, all of which contribute to his ban from possessing firearms under federal law.

This case was a collaborative effort by local law enforcement agencies, including the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, ATF, and DEA. Assistant United States Attorney Tyrie K. Boyer prosecuted the case, ensuring Haa would pay for his actions.

The sentencing of Aaron Haa is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across the nation. The Department of Justice’s aggressive approach to such cases underscores its commitment to safer communities for all.
