Ryan Ashley Hubbs, Carjacking, Ohio 2021

A violent carjacking conviction has landed a 38-year-old Ohio man in federal prison for 10 years. Ryan Ashley Hubbs, of Paris, Ohio, was sentenced to 124 months of incarceration for carjacking, Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard announced.

Hubbs, 38, had pled guilty in January 2021 to one count of "Carjacking," admitting to using violence to steal a Honda CR-V in Lewis County in October 2016. The crime was a brazen act of theft, leaving the owner shaken and without their vehicle.

The investigation into Hubbs’ crimes was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Lewis County Sheriff Office; and the Weston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Wagner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the sentencing hearing, where Hubbs was handed down a 10-year sentence. The harsh sentence reflects the severity of the crime and serves as a warning to would-be carjackers.

Carjacking is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for victims. The quick thinking and bravery of law enforcement were instrumental in bringing Hubbs to justice, and the community is safer thanks to their efforts.

Hubbs’ sentence serves as a reminder that those who use violence to commit crimes will be held accountable for their actions. The 10-year sentence is a significant blow to Hubbs, who will spend the next decade behind bars.

The sentencing hearing marked the end of a long and complex case, but it also serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance in preventing crimes like carjacking. By working together, we can create a safer and more just society for all.
