Omaha, NE – In a stunning turn of events, Angel Garcia, a resident of Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for attempting to access child pornography. The sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard on June 24, 2024, marking the culmination of a case that exposed Garcia’s dangerous intentions after a previous conviction for child pornography offenses.
Garcia’s latest offense occurred while he was still under supervised release following his federal conviction for receiving and distributing child pornography in 2023. A routine search of his residence by probation officials uncovered internet capable devices that Garcia was not permitted to possess as part of his supervision. A forensic examination of these devices revealed a chilling discovery: evidence that Garcia had been attempting to access child pornography online.
The review unearthed several keywords associated with child pornography on websites Garcia had accessed, as well as visits to specific sites dedicated to conversations about child sexual abuse. Furthermore, the media player application on one of Garcia’s devices had played videos bearing names indicative of child pornography content.
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentence, emphasizing the severity of Garcia’s actions and his parole violation that led to this investigation. ‘Garcia’s actions are a chilling reminder of the dangers posed by those who seek to exploit children,’ said Lehr.
This case was thoroughly investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Probation Office, demonstrating the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in protecting children from predators like Garcia.
Following his release from prison, Garcia will be subject to a 7-year term of supervised release, ensuring that he remains under close monitoring to prevent any future violations.
