Omaha’s Blake D. Colson, 29, a manager at Frontier Justice Omaha (FJO), has been handed down a hard-hitting sentence for his audacious scheme to fraudulently obtain firearms. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Colson to serve a year in prison followed by a two-year term of supervised release.
Colson’s shenanigans came to light when FJO conducted an internal review of its firearm transaction records, uncovering the phony gift cards he had created as part of his plan. The deceitful manager then used these fake cards to swipe seventeen firearms, ammunition, and accessories from the business.
The judge also ordered Colson to fork over $15,349.58 in restitution for his fraudulent activities. His admission of guilt and cooperation in returning nearly all stolen items did little to mitigate the severity of his punishment.
Colson’s scheme was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the Omaha Police Department. Acting United States Attorney Jan Sharp announced the sentence, noting that Colson will begin serving his time on November 19, 2021.
Colson’s fall from grace serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some individuals are willing to go to in their quest for illegal firearms and the crucial role internal controls play in preventing such crimes.
This case highlights the need for vigilance within the firearm industry and the importance of swift law enforcement action when fraud and gun trafficking are suspected.
