Orange County Cop-Kill Investigation Launched by NY AG’s OSI

New York – A chilling encounter in Orange County has sparked a full-scale investigation by the New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI).

The OSI has opened an inquiry into the death of Nancy Loftus, who succumbed to injuries following a confrontation with New York State Police (NYSP) officers on April 12, 2025.

At around 2:30 a.m., NYSP troopers were called to Deerpark in response to a knife assault. Upon arrival, they encountered Loftus outside the residence, reportedly holding what appeared to be a gun. In the tense aftermath, officers instructed Loftus to surrender her weapon and discharged their service weapons, critically wounding her.

The OSI’s probe into this tragic incident will be thorough, adhering to legal protocols under Section 70-b. As these are preliminary facts, all details may be subject to change as the investigation unfolds.

This investigation is a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding law enforcement actions and their potential consequences, as the OSI seeks clarity in what has become an unforgettable night in Orange County.
